One Year After “Mobilegeddon”

scribendi Blog, Digital Marketing, Google

It has been a full year since Google announced that they would no longer be indexing non-mobile friendly website pages. In that year, the number of people searching on mobile devices has continued to trend upward, with a new demographic of “mobile only” searchers emerging. If your business still does not have a mobile-friendly website, you’re falling further and further behind the times.

Your website is the central face of your business through which all other marketing channels flow. Traditional, off-line means of advertising (print ads, newspaper ads, radio, TV) as well as social media and Pay-Per-Click campaigns should all be designed to drive users to your website. Without a properly constructed, mobile-friendly website, the rest of your marketing efforts are likely for not.

You may think, “Well we don’t get a lot of our business through our website.” To this we say, why not? If you’re not getting business through your website, then you are missing out on a valuable demographic. The new generation of business decision makers don’t read newspapers, listen to the radio, or even watch TV. Many have trained themselves to ignore advertisements all together, having grown up being bombarded by product placements and banner ads. When these new decision makers need to find a product or service, they get on their smart phone or tablet and search. If your website doesn’t come up or is difficult to navigate on a mobile device, they will skip right past you.
